The first of its class in a line of agents called &#8220;HER dimerization inhibitors.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Both Perjeta and Herceptin target HER2 but work in complementary ways. \u00a0The combination may increase the death of cancer cells.<\/li>\n<li>Perjeta is contraindicated in pregnancy.<\/li>\n<li>FDA approved for Genentech (makers of Herceptin, too) on September 12, 2013.<\/li>\n<li>Before surgery usage is called <a title=\"neoadjuvant\" href=\"http:\/\/www.breastguide.com\/breastcancerblog\/advanced-infiltrating-ductal-carcinoma-of-the-breast\/\">neoadjuvant or\u00a0now called\u00a0<strong>primary systemic therapy<\/strong>.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Perjeta is Pertuzumab It is a targeted therapy to be used before surgery and in combination with other HER2 postive breast cancer drugs such as Herceptin (trastuzumab).
